There are many forms of daily use mold gate, but no matter what form of mold gate is used, the position of its opening has a great impact on the formability and molding quality of plastic parts. Therefore, the reasonable choice of the opening location of the mold gate is an important design link to improve the quality of plastic parts. When selecting the location of the mold gate, it should be based on the geometric shape characteristics and technical requirements of plastic manufacturing to analyze the flow state of molten plastic in the mold, filling conditions and exhaust conditions. The mold gate should be opened at the thickest section of the plastic part. When the wall thickness of the plastic parts is relatively large, if the mold gate is opened in the thin wall, this is the plastic melt into the cavity, not only the flow resistance is large, but also easy to cool, affecting the flow distance of the melt, it is difficult to ensure that the entire cavity is filled. The wall thickness of the plastic parts is often the last place where the melt solidifies, if the gate is opened in the thin wall, then the wall thickness of the place will form a surface depression or shrinkage hole due to the shrinkage of the plastic melt.
The size and location of the mold gate should be selected to avoid the phenomenon of spray and creep. If a small mold gate is opposite a cavity with a larger width and thickness, the high-speed material flow through the gate will produce melt fracture phenomena such as jet and creep due to high shear stress. Sometimes the spray phenomenon will also cause the plastic parts to form ripple flow marks.
The choice of mold gate location should make the plastic flow shortest and the material flow change direction minimum.
The location of the mold gate should be conducive to the discharge of gas in the mold cavity.
The material flow should be prevented from squeezing the cavity, core and insert.
